PHYSICAL EDUCATION - Term 2
Dance Classes: Jan-Feb 2019
After Christmas, the children enjoyed the dance strand. Each class engaged in creative dance, contemporary dance, Irish dancing, waltzing and line dancing.
Gymnastics: Mar-Apr 2019
We are currently covering the gymnastics strand of the curriculum. Children are learning how to perform different types of balances, rolls, core exercises and stretches.
Fit for Class: Mar 2019
We completed our Fit 4 Class Athletics programme and the children received certificates.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES - Term 2
Run Around Europe #BeActive: Jan-Apr 2019
Further destinations have been reached – Iceland, Portugal and Poland.
Active Breaks: Jan-Apr 2019
Our newly acquired PE equipment has been greatly welcomed by our yard leaders who with the help of teachers continue to co-ordinate our active breaks. This sports equipment was funded by the Parents Council Clothes Collection.
Soccer Blitz: Mar 2019
The girls in fourth, fifth and sixth class took part in a soccer blitz in Ballymackey recently. All the girls really enjoyed their day.
Easter Fun and Games: Apr 2019
Our Active School Committee planned and organised fun Easter activities to get everyone active.
Easter Egg Hunt | Pupils worked in teams of three and had to crack a clue to find their eggs!
Novelty Races | Easter themes races kept everyone active!
Eggs on a Plate Race | The object of the game is to keep your egg on the plate and get to the finish line. If you drop it, go back to the start!
Throw the Carrot! | Let's see who can throw their carrot the furthest!
Carrot Relay Race | No ordinary relay, the batton is a carrot!
PARTNERSHIP - TERM 2
Cycling Course: Mar-Apr 2019
The fifth and sixth class pupils recently had the opportunity to avail of a four week cycling course offered to the school by Birr Outdoor Education Centre . They learned about the parts of the bicycle, the rules of the road, hand signals and road safety. For the final lesson, they cycled around the village of Toomevara.
Staff Professional Development: ongoing
• A member of the Professional Development Services for Teachers (PDST) visited our school in January to provide support to staff in the area of gymnastics.
• Staff also attended a Gymnastics course in Thurles early in the year.
• The Final seminar of the 'Move Well Move Often' programme took place in March.
• The third and final workshop in the Active Schools Programme took place in March.
