TERM 1 - PHYSICAL EDUCATION, PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES (SEPT 2018 - DEC 2018)


PHYSICAL EDUCATION - TERM 1

The Physical Education (P.E.) programme in Kilkeary incorporates six strands – Athletics, Aquatics and Outdoor and Adventure Activities, Dance, Gymnastics and Games. This year we are putting a special focus on gymnastics. As part of the Active School Flag process, we are required to audit our P.E. programme. This has helped us to improve provision of P.E. in the school.


Athletics: Sept/Oct 2018

All roads led to Thurles for the County Cross Country Championship on September 26th. The day was a great success with all students who participated trying their best.



























Run Around Europe #BeActive: Sept 2018

In the coming weeks we will take part in the Run Around Europe challenge. This is a project set up by Sports Ireland to get children active. Children run the equivalent distance to a city in Europe. We will keep you updated on our progress!










































Aquatics: Sept/Oct 2018

A six week swimming course which took place in Nenagh Leisure Centre has come to an end. The pupils from the Middle and Senior rooms were split into three groups according to their abilities.



























PHYSICAL ACTIVITY - TERM 1

Fit 4 Class: ongoing

All classes are currently completing Fit 4 Class, a Primary School Athletics Programme.

Active Breaks: Sept/Oct 2018

Every class is using Go Noodle for movement breaks throughout the day. In addition, our 6th class playground leaders have been setting up stations for junior infants, senior infants and first classes. Second to sixth classes played dodgeball and handball.

































































Games: Sept 2018

We entered teams in the Under 11 and Under 13 Cumann na mBunscoil football competitions in September. There were boys and girls on both panels. While we didn’t win either competition, we certainly enjoyed the experience.

Nature Walk: Sept 2018

All class assembled at the boundary wall of the school before departing for our one hour nature walk through the fields.

Halloween Fun: Oct 2018

The Active School Committee organised the following events for the school:








































































































Dance: Oct 2018

Students danced to a wide range of songs, including The Monster Mash in the school shelter at lunch time to celebrate Halloween.

Active Archie

Active Archie is the newest member of Ms. Lynch’s class. He likes getting lots of exercise and he really enjoys trying new activities. Active Archie loves to go to the houses of boys and girls from Junior Infants and Senior Infants for the weekend. He has been very active and busy. He went to a camogie match, to ballet, to the playground and has been having so much fun.








































Active Breaks: Oct - Dec 2018

Our active breaktimes continued between Halloween and Christmas. Hurdling, skipping and ping-pong balls were introduced to the list of activities.

A concerted effort was made to keep everyone active during rainy days with all classes engaging in 10 @ 10 and Go Noodle activities.


















Run Around Europe #BeActive: Nov-Dec 2018

In our effort to Run Around Europe we most recently reached the cities of Paris, Brussels, Lisbon, Berlin and recorded these destinations on our map.





















Christmas Activities: Dec 2018

Santa Hat and Candy Cane Relay Race| Students from all classes engaged in a fun relay race around the school building. A Santa hat or Candy Cane was used as a baton and was transferred between team members until a victorious team emerged.

Brussel Sprout and Spoon Race| A very competitive Brussel sprout and spoon race also took place for all classes. Great concentration and steadiness of hand was demonstrated by all. Students from all classes engaged in a fun relay race around the school building. A Santa hat or Candy Cane was used as a baton and was transferred between team members until a victorious team emerged.

Santa Hat Tag | Activities finished up with a Santa Hat Tag game.

Christmas Music & Dance | Children also had the opportunity to dance to outdoor Christmas music during the school week.


























































Active School Committee

The Active School Committee continue to meet up once a week, discussing new suggestions taken from the suggestion box, our active breaks and planning for special events such as our Christmas activities. The committee also conducted a survey amongst pupils regarding the sports clubs which they are involved in.
